Site Clinics

Introduction

The Systems Support Teamare due to commence with another run of Site Clinics during Term 2. Site clinics are usually run to provide an improved service to Library Sites and departments within the Main Library where are not often in attendance.

Previous Site Clinics have been hugely successful. Staff members have commented on how the presence of a Systems Support Person can allow them ask questions they wouldn't normally ask, such as:

• Problems that they think are too small to bother helpdesk with

Benefits

• Increased communication between Systems Support and Site Staff

• Less need to contact helpdesk (through better training and advice

Disadvantages

The only disadvantage of this type of scheme is that staff sometimes start contacting Systems Support
personnel directly instead of using the helpdesk facilities that are already in place. We
intend to combat this by making clear the procedures involved in logging helpdesk calls and
outlining what is available from a "clinic". We also intend to rotate the personnel
attending a site so that no one person becomes "dedicated" to a particular area.

What you need to do

We will only attend a site clinic if we are made aware of the questions that are going to be asked. This is so that we can prepare material and solve problems quickly. Also, it would be a waste of time to attend a site without good reason. So please inform helpdesk at least the day before you are due for a visit.
